“Les Rails” shares a journey of unrest and claim. Resistance against continuous violence and long standing consequences on those who are marched upon, loudly repressed or silently muted in their disappearance. The chorus lays the idea of a fine line that separates, reunites or elevates us, where man-made lines, borders become frontiers to our interconnectedness. Addressing the imprisonment and exploitation underneath the shimmer of capitalist laws, the constant struggle of finding home when left without land, expression, or life. “The Rails” is a cry against putting prices on people’s lives while robbing them of their own worth, history, ancestry and integrity as human beings. It’s a cry for freedom and humanity.
Liaam Iman is a versatile vocalist, composer, percussionist and Reiki master of Algerian, Kabyle descent. After graduating from Art school, specializing in interactive performance and choreography they have been exploring the intersections between migration, belonging and healing through music. Their solo work invites you on a journey through ancestral poetic landscapes, multiple vocal ranges and polyrhythmic drumming, often inspired by North African, Celtic, and Balkan music mixed in with contemporary beats and ryhmes, invoking silenced voices and stories for a moment of remembrance, togetherness and presence. Since 2005, they have performed and worked on a wide range of music collaborations, theater and art projects in several European countries and Tunisia where they won the music award at the International feminist festival Chouftouhonna 2017. They are currently based in Berlin and working on their solo debut Album.
