Famale is the immediate offspring of the ctrlxxtension project, based on the deconstruction of pop songs from the nineties & early 2000 that shaped her youth. Teenage anthems from female pop icons that provided for a stronger female self-image, while at the same time reproducing a stereotypical image of women. In both case, a music scene from which she was excluded as a musician with Turkish & Arab roots.

It is the opportunity for RUSNAM & her female* musician collaborators to rebel and fight back with their own voices against these experiences of discrimination. Traditional & classical instruments such as the Arabic reed flute (Ney), the Iranian hammered dulcimer (Santur), the ancient algerian violin, the italian guitar (Chitarra) fused with an experimental & post-industrial approach to electronic ùusic production.

She gives us a reinterpretation of traditional & classical instruments, taking them out of their typical environment, blending and converting them into granulated & reversed phrases, heavy & technotic percussive tones, deep and powerful basses.

RUSNAM is a Berlin-based producer, singer, and songwriter. She grew up listening to music styles such as R&B and Hip-Hop, as well as the surrounding Berlin techno. However, she never forgets her Turkish and Arabic cultural roots, which she integrates into her music.

Since her beginnings, she has placed her identity at the center of her musical projects. She is the lead of the group "Gülina" and organizes musical empowerment workshops to support young women in conflict areas. She has developed a unique musical style, blending heavy bass lines, deconstructed Middle Eastern sounds, hypnotic soundscapes, inspired by world music, Soul & Hip-Hop, and experimental techno.

She created ctrlxxtension, an experimental audio visual live performance that explores the image of women as shaped by female pop icons, united in a dance performance that makes visible the experiences of discrimination.
